- ÀáCurrent Fiscal YearÀá
-
- Current Fiscal Year is your current accounting year. M.Y.O.B. sets the default
-
- current fiscal year to the current calendar year (most are) and sets the last
-
- month of your fiscal year to December. If yours are different, change them. If
-
- you're not sure what they are, check with your accountant before continuing.
-
-
-
- ˇˇNote:ˇˇ The first time you click Record in Company Information, the current fiscal
-
- year is set and cannot be changed.
-
-
-
- ÀáLast Month in Fiscal YearÀá
-
- This tells M.Y.O.B. how to organize the months in your fiscal year. Your fiscal
-
- year probably ends in December, but if you're not sure, check with your
-
- accountant.
-
-
-
- ˇˇNote:ˇˇ The first time you click Record in Company Information , the last month of
-
- your fiscal year is set and cannot be changed.
-
-
-
- ÀáConversion MonthÀá
-
- The Conversion Month is the month for which you want to start entering data. It
-
- does not have to be the current month. If, for example, you set the conversion
-
- month to May, M.Y.O.B. will ask you for the opening balances of your accounts as
-
- of the start of business May 1 (which are the same as the ending balances on
-
- April 30 financial statements).
-
-
-
- ÀáNote:Àá You will not be able to enter any transactions dated before your conversion
-
- month.
-
-
-
- ÀáNote:Àá The first time you click Record in Company Information , the conversion
-
- month is set and cannot be changed. If you’ve entered an incorrect conversion
-
- month and have recorded the company information, you must start a new data file
-
- to correct it.
-
-
-
- ÀáAccounting Periods per YearÀá
-
- Most people use only 12 accounting periods. A few businesses use a 13th period
-
- to make year-end adjustments, so their adjustments will not affect any one
-
- period. Most just enter their year-end adjustments on the last day of their fiscal
-
- year.
-
-
-
- If you select 13 periods, M.Y.O.B. still segregates your data by the 12 calendar
-
- months, and then adds an extra period. To enter a transaction in the 13th period
-
- put an asterisk (*) before the date.
-
-
-
- Example: A date of 1/1/92 places the transaction in January. A date of *1/1/92
-
- places the transaction in the 13th period. January’s financial reports remain
-
- unaffected by the entry. This feature allows you to use the actual date of the
-
- transaction for audit purposes, yet have it accounted for in the 13th period.
-
-
-
- ˇˇNote:ˇˇ If you accidentally select 13 periods and then record your Company
-
- Information, you cannot change it back until you start a new fiscal year. But
-
- remember, having 13 periods is not a serious problem, because you’re not
-
- required to record any transactions in that period.
-
-
-
- When you're satisfied with the information you've entered for your company
-
- click Record.
